DETAILS

Description:
Odachi or nodachi was a type of traditionally made Japanese sword used by the samurai class of feudal Japan. Odachi are difficult to produce because their length makes traditional heat treatment more complicated: The longer a blade is, the more difficult (and expensive) it is to heat the whole blade to a homogeneous temperature, both for annealing and to reach the hardening temperature. The quenching process then needs a bigger quenching medium because uneven quenching might lead to warping the blade.

The odachi, a revered weapon in samurai culture, was not only a tool of war but also a symbol of prestige among samurai families during various historical periods, including the Heian period, Kamakura period, and Muromachi period. Its complexity in production reflects the advancements in Japanese arts, where composite materials and traditional forging techniques resulted in a final product of remarkable high strength. During the Edo period, under the Tokugawa shogunate, the odachi's role evolved alongside the flourishing of practices like Zen Buddhism and the tea ceremony, embedding it deeply into the cultural fabric of the time. Even as Japan modernized during the Meiji Restoration, the odachi remained a testament to the era when the imperial court and famous samurai rose to power, leaving a lasting legacy.

Blade Engraving Options & Pricing

We offer three types of engraving available on the blade, each providing a unique visual effect. The engraving options are as follows:

  • Laser engraving: A precise, high-tech method that uses a laser to etch intricate patterns or text onto the blade, offering detailed results at an affordable price.
  • Etching engraving: A traditional process using chemical solutions to create deep, textured designs on the blade’s surface, with a distinct artistic finish. This method is priced higher due to its intricate nature.
  • 3D relief engraving: This technique creates raised, three-dimensional designs on the blade, adding depth and sculptural beauty. It is the most premium option and comes with a higher price tag.

Each engraving method varies in price depending on its complexity. This product is inspired by anime and designed as a katana, but it is not authorized or endorsed by any anime or its copyright holders. We are not affiliated with the copyright owners of any anime.
